Newswise — Boston, Mass. – Neurosurgeon Chima Ohaegbulam, MD, has been named Chief of Spine Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH). Ohaegbulam has been a member of the NEBH faculty since 2005 and succeeds Scott Tromanhauser, MD, who served as chief from 2014 to 2020.

“Dr. Ohaegbulam is a natural leader and an esteemed neurosurgeon who will continue to bring deep knowledge and expertise to New England Baptist in this new role,” said David Passafaro, President of NEBH. “We are thrilled to have him at the helm of our excellent Spine Surgery Section and look forward to watching him continue to advance top-notch, innovative care for our patients.”

Ohaegbulam has clinical interests in motion-preserving spine procedures, minimally invasive surgery and spinal navigation/robotics. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and North Americana Spine Society (NASS).

Born in the United Kingdom and raised in Nigeria, Ohaegbulam earned his medical degree from the University of Nigeria and completed a medical internship at Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He went on to complete a surgical internship and then his residency in neurosurgery and spine surgery fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Brigham and Woman’s Hospital.
