Newswise — Monday, January 7, 2013 -- Starting tomorrow, a group from Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV), the technology transfer office at Columbia University, will host a booth at the 2013 International CES in Las Vegas, Nevada. The booth will include highlights from four of Columbia University’s startup portfolio companies, along with other innovative technologies available for licensing from CTV.
Representing the exciting developments in engineering, technology, and startups coming out of New York City’s tech scene at the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow will be innovators from Lumiode, Radiator Labs, Synceros, and UdaComm.
• Lumiode, a company out of Columbia’s department of Electrical Engineering, is working to develop a brighter and more efficient microdisplay for both visible light and non-visible light applications. • Radiator Labs, also from the department of Electrical Engineering, is aiming to reduce energy waste in homes using steam or hot water heating by controlling the transfer of heat from the radiator to the home. • Synceros is featuring an iPhone 5 optical accessory that adds true 3D video recording to the popular smartphone, and specialty lenses for pico-projectors adding 3D capability for use with passive glasses.• UdaComm, another company out of the department of Electrical Engineering, is developing a system for through-air wireless ultrasound for short distance and low data rate applications. David Lerner, Director of the Venture Lab at Columbia Technology Ventures, said, "It is terrific to be able to showcase some of the most interesting emerging companies in CTV's portfolio at CES. It will be an awesome opportunity for our teams to mix it up in the annual epicenter of consumer technology."
At the event, CTV will also introduce available technologies in the fields of computer science: multimedia, mobile apps, display technologies, sensors, low power electronics, green technologies, imaging, wireless communication, 3D scanning, next generation Internet, cameras, CPUs, cyber security, and augmented reality. The technologies, which represent some of Columbia’s more than 1,000 current assets available for licensing to companies and startup entrepreneurs, showcase many of the latest in developments coming out of Columbia University. According to CTV Technology Licensing Officer Calvin Chu, “Columbia innovators are actively working on some incredible projects that are available for licensing. We hope to see many industry representatives at our CES booth, and connect with many more throughout the event.”
