Newswise — Assistant Professor David Estrada has been named the new associate director for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES). Estrada has been a faculty member in the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering since 2013, and also was recently awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
“I’m excited about the future of CAES,” said Estrada, pointing to the center’s new strategic plan, which outlines several research goals aligned to the research strengths of Boise State, including advanced manufacturing, nuclear energy, cybersecurity, energy policy and the energy – water nexus.
“This presents new opportunities for Boise State faculty to partner with CAES institutions to create innovative solutions for a better energy future. I look forward to working with leaders across CAES to expand our impact and empower the Boise State community to develop meaningful collaborations in research and education through CAES,” Estrada said.
Opened in 2009, CAES is a research and education consortium bringing together Boise State, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, the University of Wyoming and the Idaho National Laboratory – a national laboratory dedicated to supporting the Department of Energy’s efforts in nuclear science, renewable energy and national security.
“CAES is a terrific way for Boise State to engage in collaborative research, education and innovation that addresses global energy challenges. Dr. Estrada’s expertise in advanced manufacturing will be a great asset for CAES,” said former CAES Associate Director Amy Moll. “I look forward to working with Dave to implement the new CAES strategic plan.”
