Emmy Award-Winning "60 Minutes" Producer Sumi Aggarwal to Moderate IVMF Panel on Post-9/11 GI Bill

Newswise — Sumi Aggarwal, Emmy award-winning producer for "60 Minutes" on CBS News, will moderate the panel discussion "Empowering the Next Greatest Generation: Considering the Promise of the Post-9/11 GI Bill." Hosted by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF), the event is next Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Washington, D.C., at the National Press Club. The panel brings together leaders in the veterans' space, government, higher education and private industry to discuss issues related to the implementation and impact of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, commonly known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which affords veterans some of the most generous education benefits since World War II. The IVMF is pleased to welcome Aggarwal's participation in this landmark event designed to shape dialogue on the issue of veterans' education. Aggarwal has worked as a producer on "60 Minutes" for six years. During her tenure, she has covered a wide range of stories, including a discredited forensic test the FBI had been using for decades to convict hundreds of defendants, an investigation of a 50 year-old civil rights murder and an Egyptian double agent. Aggarwal's work has garnered two Emmys, an Edward R. Murrow award, a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a Sigma Delta Chi award. In addition to working at "60 Minutes," Aggarwal is an adjunct professor of broadcast journalism at City College of New York. Prior to joining "60 Minutes," she worked at NBC's "Today" show, KNTV in San Francisco and KPTV in Portland. Aggarwal is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
