Newswise — Georgia Tech Professional Education will provide an Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry (OTI 511) course at the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus Jan. 22-25, 2013. The course teaches participants how to select the appropriate OSHA standards to prevent and contain hazardous situations.
The Department of Labor through the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has significantly increased inspections and citations over the last few years to further enforce safety training and procedures in order to prevent catastrophic events. The course will help students identify possible scenarios that include but are not limited to egress and fire protection, machine guarding, ergonomics and material handling. “The course provides knowledge and skills that are immediately applicable in the workplace,” says Myrtle Turner, director of the Georgia Institute of Technology OSHA Training Institute Education Center. “Many participants reported that because of their training they have reduced accidents, received job promotions, and helped their companies reduce cost.” Instructors Michelle Dunham, Jim Howry, and Steve Davis will be teaching the course. Dunham is an industrial hygiene consultant for the Georgia Institute of Technology Safety and Health Consultation Program. Howry, research associate with the Georgia Institute of Technology Safety and Health Consultation Program, has years of experience including serving as a regional loss control manager for CableCom Inc. Davis, president, CEO, and principal consultant for GRM, Inc., has over 35 years in management consulting.
This course can be used to obtain an Industrial Safety and Health Certificate from Georgia Tech Professional Education.
