• The Dietary Guidelines Alliance, of which IFIC is a founding member, along with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other food and health organizations, has conducted research into effective lifestyle changing messaging for parents and children.
• The IFIC Foundation conducts an annual Food and Health Survey, a nationwide examination of consumers’ opinions on weight and health, healthful eating and physical activity. The 2012 edition of the survey will be released in the coming weeks.
• In January, 2012 the IFIC Foundation, USDA and HHS convened its first Expert Roundtable as part of the “Motivating Individuals to Achieve Sustained Healthful Diet and Physical Activity Behaviors: A Stakeholder Dialogue.” The Expert Roundtable discussed behavioral science and its application to diet and physical activity behaviors and long-term strategies for motivating Americans to implement dietary and physical activity guidance.
• The IFIC Foundation also hosted the Global Diet and Physical Activity Communications Summit: “Insights to Motivate Healthful, Active Lifestyles,” in September, 2011. The Summit brought together stakeholders from 34 nations to address the role of health communications in reducing non-communicable diseases. The proceedings from the Global Summit were published in the May 2012 issue of the journal Nutrition Reviews.
