Newswise — University of Iowa law professor and Islamic law expert Adrien Wing has traveled widely throughout the Mideast and finds people there have always been fascinated by democracy and the American political process. They’re especially curious when they discover she’s from Iowa, home of the famous caucuses, and they have an endless desire to learn more about how the political process works here. It’s always been in a theoretical sense, though, because few of them ever thought that free elections would ever come to Egypt or many other countries in the region.
“I have a feeling that very soon now, my friends will be back in touch, and they will be asking me the details of the primary and caucus system again,” she said. “This time it will not be for theoretical interest, but for real.”
