Newswise — Thousands of acres of the Carmel Forest, adjacent to the University of Haifa, Israel, were engulfed in flames in the fire that began Thursday. It turned into a national tragedy - the largest forest fire in the history of modern Israel.
By early Thursday evening, the campus of the University of Haifa became the location for the Central Control of the security forces and tents were put up for the police force, fire services and home front command in the parking lot opposite the University’s Multipurpose Building.
