Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., Signs Extended Contract with AMC College Ensured of Long-Term Stability

Newswise — Paxton, MA (January 17, 2013) Anna Maria College announces that Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., has signed an extended contract with the College’s Board of Trustees to remain in his position as President of the institution for an additional five years. Dr. Calareso, who was inaugurated in October 2007, has agreed to continue in his current role on a full-time basis until 2017 and then remain an additional year carrying through consulting, teaching, or other projects as assigned by the Trustees in consultation with the new President, bringing his entire tenure with AMC to 11 years.

“We are particularly grateful and blessed that President Calareso has opted to lead the AMC Community for the next five years. His leadership inspires commitment and exemplifies the best practices and strategies for Catholic Higher Education today,” shares Yvette E. Bellerose, SSA, Chair of the AMC Board. “Under his strong leadership the College has grown significantly and has become financially fit, capable of meeting the challenges of our uncertain economic times. I have no doubt that with his extraordinary expertise, Anna Maria College will continue to be strengthened and become a premiere institution of higher education in New England,” she adds.

Since Dr. Calareso joined AMC in 2007, total enrollment at the College has doubled; new academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels have been added, as well as three new residence halls, an all-purpose athletic field and athletic facility, new sports teams and new cocurricular programs; an online academic venue was launched; technology has been enhanced; the visibility and community engagement of the College increased; and its endowment increased by over $4 million. According to Sr. Yvette, the extended contract will ensure the stability of Anna Maria College, allowing it to seize new opportunities and continue on its pursuit of excellence.

“I am honored to be invited by the Board of Trustees to continue my service to this distinguished Catholic college,” says President Calareso. “With a dedicated Board, talented and gifted faculty and staff, and a supportive alumni and community, we have accomplished great things in the past five years. But there is more to be done and I look forward to working together with so many to accomplish all of our goals.”

“President Calareso's tenure has been marked by some tremendous strides as Anna Maria has built upon the traditions of the Sisters of Saint Anne,” comments Fr. Richard F. Reidy, Pastor of Saint Ann’s Church, North Oxford, MA, and a member of the AMC Board of Trustees. “The announcement of President Calareso's new contract is wonderful news for our entire community. As a member of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted with this news and I look forward to his continued work with the faculty, students and staff to further Anna Maria's mission as a Catholic liberal arts college that seeks to prepare its graduates not only to succeed in the world but to better the world through a spirit of selfless service to their families, workplaces and communities,” he continues.

AMC Board member and Senior Advisor for Lutheran Social Services of New England, David P. Forsberg adds, “I am thrilled that President Calareso has agreed to serve Anna Maria College for the next five years. His leadership is one of the things that attracted me to board service and it is clearly what has helped take the College to the next level. He puts students first. He is a great fiscal steward and going forward I think that we are in really great hands.”
