South Dakota State University physics/biochemistry major Zachary Lehmann of Sioux Falls mounts a small piece of half-metallic alloy on a sample holder before measuring its magnetic properties. Lehmann, who graduates in May 2022, has been doing research on semiconductor materials with physics professor Parashu Kharel since his second semester at State. His research experiences at SDSU and Mayo Clinic have helped shape his career path.

Sioux Falls native Zachary Lehmann, a physics/biochemistry major at South Dakota State University, makes a new half-metallic alloy as part of National Science Foundation-funded research on semiconductor materials in the laboratory of associate physics professor Parashu Kharel. The skills he learned doing physics research helped him get a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in molecular pharmacology at Mayo Clinic.
