Children in the Fairbanks, Alaska, cohort, who are second graders, walk through the forest in fall 2021. During the expeditions, the children take turns using a wearable camera that records their interactions with their classmates, teachers and even family members. This nature tour is as part of South Dakota State University associate professor Carie Green’s research to examine how family, culture and geographical location shape the way in which children form their environmental identities.
