WVU School of Medicine researcher Timothy Nurkiewicz and his colleagues are using this customized stove in the University's Inhalation Facility to examine the harm that burn pit exposure can do. The stove burns pellets the School of Forestry has made to resemble the composition of burn pits at Iraq’s busiest military bases. Simulating burn pit exposure in this way allows the researchers to safely and precisely study the health effects of burn pit emissions.
