These supercomputer-generated images depict how the placement of combustion inside or outside the jet, affects its fluid dynamics and hence, mixing in combustion regions. Fluid dynamic structures indicate the vortex shedding from jet entering into crossflow: (a) non-reacting jet, (b-d) reacting jets with different combustion regions; (c) corresponds to reactions inside the jet, showing reduced vortex shedding while (b) corresponds to reactions outside jet, showing increased vortex shedding.
