In diseased hearts, low-dose radiation therapy appears to improve heart function. The research, from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, could lead to new heart failure therapies. Two mouse hearts with heart failure are shown. The heart on the right received radiation therapy and is beating more effectively than the heart on the left, which received no treatment.
