LLNL Lead Mechanical Designer Darrel Carter developed the overall design and assembly for the Deep Purple payload. He is shown verifying the final mechanical torque on the assembly. The Livermore Space Hardware team designed, developed, qualified and delivered the Deep Purple payload in approximately one year for less than $1 million. The payload is now ready for integration into the PTD-R satellite bus constructed by Laboratory Cooperative Research and Development Agreement partner Terran Orbital and is scheduled for launch this summer.
