This medium is used to grow malaria parasites. By allowing malaria parasites to evolve over time in controlled conditions and analyzing their genomes, researchers at UC San Diego School of Medicine have revealed which genetic variants are most likely to confer resistance to antimalarial compounds, including currently used drugs.
