Newswise — Misericordia University has named Darci Brown, P.A.-C., as the director of clinical education and assistant professor of physician assistant studies for the new Physician Assistant program. The five-year Master of Science program, which is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, begins classes in late August 2012.

In her position, Brown will assist in development of the newly approved program, oversee development of clinical rotation sites, and will monitor students on clinical rotation, including site visits, site evaluations, and student evaluations. As part of her duties, she will also teach in the new program, help chair a clinical education committee, and serve as chair of the program’s admissions committee.

The Misericordia University Master of Science in Physician Assistant program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) conducted a campus visit in October. ARC-PA will review its findings and will rule on issuing provisional accreditation in March. The new Misericordia program expects to begin accepting students for the fall 2012 semester which begins in late August.

Brown comes to Misericordia University from Coordinated Health Inc., Bethlehem, Pa., where she assisted a team of plastic and orthopedic surgeons in all aspects of their practice, including at the office, specialty surgical center, hospital and in the operating room.

She has experience in primary and post-operative wound care, hospital rounds, patient education, dictations, procedural documentation, and assisting with minor office surgeries and procedures. She also has served as the first assistant in the operating room, and has conducted patient evaluations and follow-ups. She also has created presentations for the general public on education of surgical procedures.

She previously provided all aspects of family practice patient care at Kutztown Family Medicine, Kutztown, Pa., where she cared for patients of all ages from infant to elderly with both acute and long-term care needs.

Brown graduated magna cum laude from Buffalo State College, Buffalo, N.Y., with a Bachelor of Science in forensic chemistry and holds a Master of Science in physician assistant studies from Arcadia University, Glenside, Pa. She is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at DeSales University, Center Valley, Pa.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants, where she serves as Region V representative. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and holds a Pennsylvania State Physician Assistant License.

Her community interests include serving for the past three years as a volunteer for the State Theater in Easton, Pa. She also volunteers with Honor Flight, assisting veterans on trips to Washington, D.C., war memorials. She and her husband, Richard Brown, live in Allentown, Pa.
