From the authors: "Our studies demonstrate that mitochondria delivered by either direct vascular perfusion to the lungs via the pulmonary artery or by aerosol delivery via trachea via nebulization improves lung mechanics and enhances tissue recovery following 2 hours of ischemia and 24 hours of reperfusion in a murine model."

This study is highlighted as one of January's "best of the best" as part of the American Physiological Society's APSselect program.
