Digital health app connects patients to clinical services at Rush on a secure, mobile platform

Newswise — As technology progresses, Rush is developing and implementing new tools to offer more options and convenience to patients. Today, the Rush University System for Health launched its new electronic health record platform, the My Rush mobile app, which is available free for use on Android and Apple mobile phones.

My Rush provides easy access to MyChart, Rush’s secure online health records system. The app contains the same information as a patient’s MyChart account, plus additional features.

The new tool enables patients to access video visits, schedule appointments, check test results, communicate with care teams, refill prescriptions and monitor billing and records, among other conveniences. The new app also provides an additional array of tools to help patients manage their health, including information about electronic visits (e-visits) and a symptom checker.

“The mobile application is designed to make it easy for our patients to connect to clinical services at Rush,” said Dr. Shafiq Rab, senior vice president and chief information officer, Rush University Medical Center and the Rush University System for Health.

“As we continue to build new tools, we will add even more features to the app, such as on-campus wayfinding,” Rab continued. “In addition to offering patients exciting features and convenient access, the Rush app also represents an important building block for future growth. By integrating our digital tools into a single app, we are making it easy for patients to engage with their health and with Rush.”

The application was launched for and tested by Rush employees in the fall of 2018 and is now available for patients to use, with new features being added continually. This week, Rush added on-demand video visits, which is a no-appointment video chat feature available through the app.

Currently, the app provides access to:

  • On-demand video visits and e-visits
  • Appointment scheduling
  • Find a doctor
  • Prescription refill and management
  • Messaging with current providers
  • Bill pay
  • MyChart integration with Apple Health and Google Fit

Patients interested in using the app can download it for free through the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play (for Android) on mobile devices. Patients without a MyChart account can create one through the app or online at https://mychart.rush.edu/mychart/signup.
