Newswise — CIMIT will convene its annual Innovation Congress Oct. 27-28 in Boston, with top keynote speakers, in-depth discussions about cutting-edge medical issues and close to 60 demonstrations of innovative medical devices and clinical systems in the CIMIT Exploratorium.

The theme of the conference is “Accelerating Healthcare Solutions through Technology.” Five nationally recognized leaders will keynote the two day event.

Susan Axelrod, President of CURE (Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy) is featured as the Voice of the Patient. Axelrod founded CURE along with two other mothers to spearhead the search for a cure for epilepsy.

Clayton M. Christensen, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, is the architect of and the world’s foremost authority on disruptive innovation. He is the author of “The Innovators Prescription” (2009), which examines how to fix the problems facing healthcare.

Setting the stage for the three conference tracks on Transforming Patient Care through IT, Caring for the Injured Soldier, and Introducing New Technologies into Clinical Care are:

Sean M. Hogan, Vice President, Global Healthcare Delivery Systems, IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences, will frame the issues to be examined in Transforming Patient Care through IT. His organization leads the development of IBM’s Healthcare Industry Solutions, Business Partnerships and Alliances and growth and investments initiatives.

Major General James K. Gilman, MD, Commander US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, will headline the track on Caring for the Injured Soldier. The USAMRMC is the Army's medical materiel developer, with responsibility for medical research, development, and acquisition and medical logistics management.

Michael J. Harsh, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, GE Healthcare, will address the general session about the challenges of Introducing New Technologies into Clinical Care. Mr. Harsh leads the global technology strategy for GE Healthcare to create and sustain global technology leadership that will provide strategic growth opportunities.

Reform is driving new thinking in healthcare delivery. The CIMIT Innovation Congress 2009 will explore novel ways to transform healthcare delivery systems, improve patient safety, maximize outcomes and achieve favorable healthcare economics.
