Newswise — The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery is pleased to announce that, with effect from 1st May 2013, Professor Fares Haddad has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of The Bone & Joint Journal (formerly known as The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, British Volume).

At the time of Mr Richard Villar’s appointment as Editor-in-Chief in July 2012, the Society was aware of his significant commitments overseas in emergency and disaster medicine. In view of these, it was envisaged that Professor Haddad would play an increasing editorial role on the Journal over the ensuing 2-3 years, with a view to taking over as Editor-in-Chief after that time. In the event, Mr. Villar’s overseas responsibilities have proved more onerous than expected, and therefore this plan has been accelerated.

Whilst we regret Richard Villar’s departure and thank him wholeheartedly for his energy and vision as the launch Editor of The Bone & Joint Journal, we are delighted that he has accepted the role of International Advisory Editor, so the Journal will continue to benefit from his valuable input.

We warmly welcome Professor Haddad to the role of Editor-in-Chief. He is Professor of Orthopaedics and Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at University College, London, UK, and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University College London Hospitals. He has a distinguished track record in clinical research and practice, and a long association with the Journal, serving in many capacities over the last decade.

Professor Haddad brings to the Journal his experience as an internationally respected hip, knee and sports surgeon, his enthusiasm as a surgeon in a busy active clinical practice, and the vigour of a very active researcher. He is committed to upholding the quality and high standards to which our readership has been accustomed. The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery22 Buckingham StreetLondon WC2N 6ET, UK
