New Rush Oak Brook Outpatient Center Brings Nationally Ranked Programs to Western Suburbs

Dedication and Ribbon Cutting on Dec. 11 Precedes Opening in January 2019

Newswise — Rush will expand access to academic health care for people living in the western suburbs of Chicago with the opening of a new, medical professional building in Oak Brook in January 2019.

The three-story, 100,000-square-foot building at 2011 York Road will include a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center; 65 patient exam rooms; physical and occupational therapy; a medical laboratory; and imaging services, including MRI, X-ray and CT imaging with ultrasound and bone densitometry, as well as a comprehensive breast imaging program. The building will have an attached parking deck with about 485 spaces.

The building is a joint venture between Rush and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, a private practice physician group whose members are on the faculty at Rush University. The total cost of the new building is estimated to be about $65 million.

“Our goal at Rush is to make it as convenient as possible for people living and working in the western suburbs to receive the most coordinated, advanced health care from their Rush-affiliated providers,” said Michael Dandorph, president of the Rush System.

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush will occupy the first floor, with 16 patient exam rooms, a cast room, physical therapy, occupational therapy, MRI and X-ray imaging, and durable medical equipment services for orthopedic patients.

The first floor also features a sports performance center, designed to be a bridge to help patients transition from physical therapy to more intense physical activity while identifying and correcting deficits that may lead to discomfort, injury or decreased performance. The center will feature Functional Sports Assessments for the hip, knee, and shoulder, video throwing assessments, and video gait assessments that uses body sensors, high speed cameras, and force plates to analyze an individual’s unique movement pattern. This information allows clinicians to create effective programs to address each patient's unique needs.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Rush on this new facility and to provide a new location for our patients who live in the western suburbs,” said Dr. Brian Cole, managing partner, Midwest Othopaedics at Rush, and a professor in Rush Medical College’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

The second floor houses 50 patient exam rooms and two procedure rooms for physicians at Rush in 18 medical specialties, including primary care, dermatology, neurosurgery, and ear, nose and throat.

The third floor houses the outpatient surgery center, which includes six operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and 28 patient bays for pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical recovery for patients who undergo pain management procedures, general surgery, ear, nose and throat, musculoskeletal, gastro-intestinal and other surgical procedures.

Rush orthopedics is ranked the top program of its kind in Illinois and fourth in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its annual “Best Hospitals” issue. U.S. News also ranked Rush University Medical Center among the best hospitals in the country in six other specialty areas in 2018. They include: geriatrics (ranked 14th), neurology and neurosurgery (11th), kidney disease (nephrology) (34th), gynecology (36th), ear nose and throat (24th), and cancer (49th).

The Oak Brook facility is part of a greater commitment by Rush to increase access to top-quality, coordinated academic health care across the Chicago region. In October, Rush opened an outpatient facility in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood and in April 2016, Rush opened an outpatient health center in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. These centers provide immediate, primary and specialty care in a neighborhood setting with extended office hours. Over the course of the past year, Rush also has expanded access to advanced outpatient and inpatient care at Rush Oak Park Hospital.
