Newswise — After an extensive national search, Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J., has appointed Dr. Niranjan Pati as dean of the Rohrer College of Business, effective July 1. He replaces Ted Schoen, who has led the college since 1999.
Pati comes to the Glassboro campus from Indiana University Kokomo, where he has served since 2001 as the dean of the university's business school as well as a professor of operations management.
"Rowan is excited to welcome Dr. Pati to the Rohrer College of Business," said Dr. Donald Farish, the University's president. "He has an excellent background, with skills that will help us continue to build our already-strong undergraduate programs, enhance our MBA program and strengthen our ties to the New Jersey and greater Delaware Valley business community."
Pati earned a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and management science and an M.S. in industrial engineering and management science from Northwestern University. He earned an M.Tech. in industrial engineering and operations research from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and a B. Tech in production engineering from Ranchi University, Ranchi, India. He also attended the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University.
Prior to joining the Indiana faculty, Pati was a professor and chairperson of the Department of Management in the College of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse. He also was a senior teaching fellow and teaching assistant at Northwestern University and a part-time instructor at Northeastern Illinois University while pursuing his doctoral degree at Northwestern University. Before he entered academia, Pati worked in business and industry in India.
Highly published in refereed manufacturing, business and education-related publications, Pati also has presented on similar topics at national and international professional conferences. He has submitted numerous grants proposals to agencies such as the McGowan Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. He also has established exchange arrangements with the universities in Mexico and South Korea.
Pati has been active in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, is a member of its Peace Through Commerce task force and was the founding chair of the Business School Deans affinity group.
He also is the chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities affinity group. A member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Society, Production and Operations Management Society, Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences and several civic groups, he has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2007 "Distinguished Hoosier" award from Indiana's governor, one of the highest civilian awards conferred on the citizens of that state.
Pati played a pivotal role in establishing an Asian Graduate Business School in India that will be launched in July 2008 with master's and doctoral-level offerings.
The Rohrer College of Business at Rowan University offers undergraduate majors in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources management, management, marketing, and management information systems as well as a M.B.A. program. Approximately 1,100 undergraduate and 80 graduate students are enrolled for spring 2008 in the AACSB International-accredited college. Recipient of a $10-million gift from The William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation in March 2005, the Rohrer College of Business hosts a business incubator, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurs Forum of Southern New Jersey.
