Newswise — PHILADELPHIA — The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has issued a call for nominations for its 2014 AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Prevention Research.
The award is bestowed upon a scientist from anywhere in the world for seminal contributions to the field of cancer prevention. The research for which the individual is recognized must have been conducted in basic, translational, clinical, epidemiological, or behavioral science in cancer prevention research; furthermore, these studies must have had a major impact on the field, and must also have stimulated new directions in this important area.
The recipient of the award will receive a $5,000 honorarium and present a 50-minute lecture at the 13th Annual AACR International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research. The conference will be held Sept. 28 – Oct. 1 in New Orleans, La.
Last year’s award honored John P. Pierce, Ph.D., distinguished professor of family and preventative medicine and director of population sciences at the University of California, San Diego Moores Cancer Center in La Jolla, for his research on the epidemiology of health behaviors, particularly tobacco smoking and nutrition in cancer care.
