Newswise — Ocean Springs, Mississippi, February 17, 2021 – Building on the success of the “Embrace the Gulf” 2020 campaign, the Gulf of Mexico Alliance is continuing the initiative this year with a new focus on improving the health of the Gulf. This year’s goal is to turn awareness into action through easy steps that make a difference in coastal communities, habitats, and wildlife. With weekly social media messages, the Alliance is sharing ways to volunteer, help wildlife, get outside, and more.

Last year, the Alliance launched the Embrace the Gulf campaign, a year-long education and awareness effort highlighting the vitality, sustainability, and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico. Knowing that the best way to reach a broad audience across the five Gulf states would be to use the power of social media, the Alliance shared daily messages across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The initiative was extremely successful, engaging over 25,000 new followers. Sharing daily facts throughout 2020 built the foundation that now makes action possible.

Highlights of Embrace the Gulf 2021 include:

  • Weekly actions on the Gulf of Mexico Alliance’s social media accounts, highlighting easy ways to improve the health of the Gulf of Mexico
  • Monthly themes focusing on communities, habitats, wildlife, and outdoor activities such as fishing and kayaking
  • Regular Embrace the Gulf stories and bi-monthly facts about animals native to the Gulf of Mexico printed in South Mississippi Living
  • Campaign partnerships with Clean Gulf Associates and Shell

“Building on the tremendous success of the 2020 campaign, we look forward to spending another year as a partner in the Embrace the Gulf initiative. Messages this year will help all of us who live, work, and play along the Gulf take action to improve the health of our coasts,” said Frank Paskewich, Clean Gulf Associates Inc. President.

Becky Ginn, Development Director for the Gulf of Mexico Alliance, has already seen an enthusiastic response to this year’s messages. “Inspired by the Embrace the Gulf initiative, people are finding new ways to share their time, talent, and passion for the Gulf by volunteering with local environmental organizations in their communities,” she said.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to continue engaging with the Alliance throughout 2021. Learn more at www.gulfofmexicoalliance.org/embrace and follow the Gulf of Mexico Alliance on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
