Newswise — CHICAGO (February 20, 2011) – See how electronic medical records can work for you at the 2011 HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™ at HIMSS11 from February 21- 24 in Orlando, Fla. As part of HIMSS11, the Interoperability Showcase exhibit provides a full landscape of health IT solutions, live demonstrations of interoperability, and educational opportunities that connect thousands of health IT buyers and end-users to answer your most complex health IT questions.

Designed as a series of connected health information exchanges, the 2011 HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™ includes clinical use cases with enhanced privacy and security enabled by standards-based interoperability solutions.

HIMSS Interoperability Showcase attendees will learn more about:

‧ Exciting progress in state public health initiatives that improve immunization reporting and early screening for newborn hearing loss.

‧ Health information exchange and connectivity of patient care devices, including new home-based devices planned for Continua certifications

Federal initiatives in interoperability such as the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record presented by the U.S. Department of Defense, National Health Information Network, Direct Project, and CONNECT.

International interoperability efforts such as Smart Open Services for European Patients (EpSOS) and IHE Europe projects by country.

“At the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, attendees can track their personal health record through patient care scenarios; an experience that helps participants truly understand the value and benefits of interoperable electronic medical records,” said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN. “We have over 80 participating organizations/companies that are demonstrating more than 100 clinical information systems during this year’s Showcase.”

Vendors from across the globe participated in IHE North American Connectathon and Connectathon Conference in January. Vendors prepare three months in advance for this five-day testing marathon, which requires healthcare IT vendors to test their transport capabilities by sending health information through standards-based exchanges to products from three other vendors. The HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase features only vendors that participate and pass the rigorous testing completed at the Connectathon event.

HIMSS11 attendees can choose from more than 60 presentations in the Showcase educational theaters or visit the new HIMSS Live Exchange. Theater presentations will cover a range of topics including interoperability success stories of HIT industry leaders, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise domain updates, and a look at government agency initiatives. Showcase Theater presentations will be held continuously throughout the conference. New this year is the HIMSS Live Exchange. This demonstration will feature clinicians presenting standards-based interoperability solutions which have already been deployed in their clinical workplace to improve patient care. Attendees can chat at the Interoperability Ask the Experts Desk with health IT industry professionals who can answer specific questions after touring the Showcase floor.

Located at the Orange County Convention Center, the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase will be open Monday, February 21 – Thursday, February 24, in Booth #7343 - Hall E. The HIMSS11 Showcase hours are:
