Newswise — The Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) reality competition heads into its final performances for this season, next week. From a mathematical standpoint, the DWTS fan base hasn’t really connected with most of this season’s group, with the exception of J.R. Martinez. The show has given America, a chance to connect with a real life American hero through his performances each week.
Martinez appears to be the most popular contestant this season, says Jason Gershman, Ph.D., assistant professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL.
“At this point, while the sample sizes of the data I have gathered are low, it is pretty clear that J.R Martinez is most popular and will likely win next week's finale” says Gershman. “Ricki Lake may get higher judges scores but J.R. has the fan base. Rob Kardashian is clearly in 3rd place and I would be very surprised if he breaks into the top 2”.
Martinez was critically injured in a 2003 Humvee explosion while he was stationed in Iraq, but he has preserved, triumphed and danced his way into America’s heart. Statistically speaking, America will continue to show their support for him next week during the final performances on Dancing with the Stars.
Jason Gershman, Ph.D., is available to discuss the mathematical analysis of the voting and rankings this season.
