Newswise — DES PLAINES, Ill. (June 6, 2012) - United States Drug Testing Laboratories, Inc. (USDTL), a reference laboratory specializing in alcohol and substances of abuse testing, announces a summer pricing special. Between now and July 31st 2012, USDTL will offer its PEthStat® assay for $55 a test to all interested parties currently in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy that sign a minimum of a one year to a maximum of a five year contract.*
Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an abnormal phospholipid formed in cell tissues following risky levels of alcohol consumption. PEth in blood exists as a component of the red cell membrane and is a mid-to-long-term biomarker. A positive result is an indication of binge drinking during the 2-3 weeks prior to the collection of the bloodspot.
While ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a sensitive and valuable assay to confirm abstinence in those individuals in treatment programs for alcohol abuse, recent studies have indicated that low level positive EtG results can be produced by certain agents like hand sanitizers and mouth wash. The PEthStat assay helps to discriminate between incidental exposure and alcohol ingestion. The volume of alcohol required to trigger a positive PEth result is far above the level commonly attained by incidental exposure. Sample amount is five dried blood spots on USDTL-provided filter paper. Results are available 4-7 days after the sample is received in the laboratory.
*All contracts must be signed and executed by July 31st 2012 to qualify.
