Newswise — Washington, D.C. – The American Cleaning Institute launched a partnership with the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Eye Institute (NEI) as part of the Packets Up! campaign to help educate families on the simple steps to prevent accidental eye exposures among children in the laundry room.
Coinciding with Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, the partnership features educational materials, including a Facebook and Twitter animation in English and Spanish illustrating simple steps to properly handle and store liquid laundry packets, to ensure they are out of sight and reach of young children.
ACI’s Packets Up! campaign educates parents and families on the safe and proper use of liquid laundry packets and other common cleaning supplies. Proper use and storage of these trusted, everyday products is a daily practice that can be easily integrated into the laundry routine to help prevent accidents at home. Last year alone, the campaign reached over 250 million people.
“As an industry, we have a long-standing commitment to inform and educate consumers on the proper use and storage of liquid laundry packets to avoid unintended exposures,” said Brian Sansoni, American Cleaning Institute Senior Vice President, Communications. “Our partnership with the National Eye Institute is a natural fit, combining their trusted voice in eye health and safety with our expertise in cleaning best practices to provide tangible ways families can keep their children safe.”
The National Eye Institute has been a leader in vison research for more than 50 years and works to help educate the public about vision problems and how to keep their eyes healthy.
“At the National Eye Institute, we work hard to help the public learn about how they can keep their eyes safe,” said Kristina Beaugh, MPH, director of the National Eye Health Education Program, NEI. “We are excited to be part of the Packets Up! Campaign to help further educate on eye safety in the laundry room.”
