Newswise — Chicago (Sep. 23, 2019): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has awarded this year’s Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award to Ruth Anne Herring, MSN RN CPNP-AC/PC CPHON®. Herring was presented with this award at the 43rd Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, held September 5-7, in San Jose, CA.
The Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership award is presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON in a given year. Herring has been involved in pediatric oncology nursing and a member of APHON for more than 30 years. She recently stepped into the Chair position on the APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Program Committee and was an editor of The Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Curriculum 4th Ed. Additionally, Herring is an active member of the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter of APHON and has authored several patient and family resources for APHON.
APHON President Joan O’Hanlon Curry, MS RN CPNP CPON®, shared, “Ruth Anne did an incredible job with the 4th edition of the Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Curriculum. It was a huge undertaking with the addition of all the new biologic agents we are using in pediatric oncology. She was thorough, meticulous, and worked with everyone so well. Ruth Anne really demonstrated true leadership excellence.”
