Newswise — CLEVELAND -- Jordan M. Winter, MD, has been appointed Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Director of Surgical Services at UH Seidman Cancer Center.

In addition to surgical management of pancreatic and related cancers, he treats other upper gastrointestinal malignancies and abdominal tumors. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and a dozen book chapters, many of them on pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Winter is also a leader in translational and basic research in pancreatic and related cancers, including a soon-to-begin study at UH on the use of a novel metabolic inhibitor. He directs a lab, funded by the American Cancer Society and NIH, where he investigates alternative strategies for pancreatic cancer treatment.
Dr. Winter comes to UH from Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Philadelphia, where he served as Co-Director of the Jefferson Pancreas, Biliary and Related Cancer Center, Co-Director of the GI Multidisciplinary Clinical Trials Group in the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, and Co-Director of the Multidisciplinary Pancreas Cancer Clinic.
Dr. Winter earned his medical degree at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York. He completed his general surgery residency and research fellowship in oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Dr. Winter replaces Julian Kim, MD, who left UH in June after 12 years of distinguished and compassionate service to UH cancer patients for a position at the Palmetto Health-University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
