This conceptual figure shows predator and prey abundance inside and outside of eddies within the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. This region is known to be nutrient-poor but supports predator fishes that are central to the economic and food security of the surrounding communities. The figure shows the distribution of prey biomass at varying depths from day to night, showcasing that abundant prey in anticyclonic eddies attract diverse open ocean predators to aggregate in these features.
