BOSTON MARATHON 1999 Boston University Experts Provide Tips For Race Day

With the 103rd Boston Marathon right around the corner, more than 12,000 official runners will gather to run the last Boston Marathon of the Millennium.

The following faculty members at Boston University can comment as you prepare your race-day stories on a variety of related topics having to do with exercise, training and nutrition:

Leonard Zaichowsky, Sports Psychologist, Professor of Developmental Studies and Counseling: Offers insight on the mental preparation required for major sports competition as well as psychological strategies that can reduce mental stress.

Roger Fielding, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences: Provides exercise tips for runners over 40 and can discuss the physiological effects of running.

Tom Cronin, Clinical Associate Professor of Training: Will provide on-site support in the Boston Marathon medical tent and can offer expertise on how to assess race-day injuries.

Joan Salge Blake, Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Nutrition: Gives nutrition advice for the spectators of the race to help them enjoy the event without eating a marathon of calories.
