Newswise — "Fire up the grill, round up your friends, and prepare for a flavor explosion," says The Association for Dressings and Sauces (ADS). The Atlanta-based trade association of salad dressing and sauce manufacturers and suppliers to the industry celebrates July as National Grilling Month. Summer is the official season for grilling, and there's no time like the present to get your game on. Check out the endless array of flavorful dressings, sauces and marinades in the grocery and formulate your own grilling plan. With no shortage of tasty and flavorful condiment sauces available, it's the perfect time of year to experiment with your inner flavor-meister. There are many ways to turn your grilling not only into a delicious and fun way to cook, but also into a healthy way to eat. By choosing foods that are low in fat, high in nutrients and full of flavor, you can craft great meals that are also nutritious.

To make your barbecue the most delicious it can be, just follow a few basic tips!

Keep your grill clean - it will cook better and allow for the safest grilling.

Completely defrost meat and poultry before grilling so it cooks evenly.

Marinate meat and poultry in your favorite marinade, sauce or dressing for several hours or days to tenderize and add flavor. The average marinating time for meat can range from three hours to overnight and marinating 12 hours or more reduces cooking time by one-third. Cubed meats for kabobs usually require two to three hours.

Don't use the same condiment sauce used on raw food as a sauce while cooking - always use a fresh batch to keep contamination at a minimum.

When removing food from your grill always use a clean platter as harmful bacteria present in the raw meat juices could contaminate safely cooked food.

Experiment with new flavors of sauces and marinades regularly to keep the excitement in your grilling. Go bold, sweet, spicy or citrus! Salad dressings are also great as marinades.

Allow about 1/2 cup of marinade for each pound of food.

Lastly, add fresh vegetables, such as tomatoes or carrots, to your grilling in the way of kabobs as your grilled masterpiece. Such vegetables are equally tasty served as a side, or your main attraction, and don't forget to add dipping sauces.
