RE: Why Files provides background on schoolhouse violence, grief

The shock of the unfolding tragedy in Littleton, Colo., will be difficult for most Americans to absorb. But for those interested in learning more about why kids kill, the psychological intricacies of grief, and the technology available to make firearms safer, The Why Files, a science-behind-the-news web site produced by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has answers.

The site, developed under the auspices of the National Institute for Science Education and supported by the UW-Madison Graduate School, explores human tragedies, some similar to the Littleton experience, in an effort to help explain the mysteries of such behavior and ways related issues can be addressed through science and technology. To learn more about schoolhouse violence and the emotional underpinnings of grief, The Why Files can be viewed at http://whyfiles.news.wisc.edu
