Newswise — David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire and a nationally recognized expert who has published extensively in the field of child abuse prevention and treatment, is available to talk about the Michael Jackson child molestation trial both while the jury deliberates and after a verdict is reached.
Dr. Finkelhor has been studying the problems of child victimization, child maltreatment and family violence since 1977. He is well known for his conceptual and empirical work on child sexual abuse, and for developing some of the earliest estimates about the prevalence and characteristics of child sexual abuse. He is the author or editor of 10 books including Sourcebook on Child Sexual Abuse (Sage, 1986), Nursery Crimes: Sexual Abuse in Day Care (Sage, 1988), and Sexually Abused Children (Free Press, 1999).
In his recent work, he has tried to unify and integrate knowledge about all the diverse forms of child victimization in a field he has termed Developmental Victimology, a field devoted to understanding how the nature and impact of crime and violence change for children as they progress across the stages of childhood.
He has served on the Youth Protection Advisory Board for the Boy Scouts of America and Cardinal Bernard Law's Commission for the Protection of Children.
