Newswise — Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow gets the kind of media hits that’s heaven sent, the kind other players pray for.

Reportedly, millions of fans Googled “John 3:16” within the past 24 hours after Tebow sported it on eye-black messagers during Sunday night’s game. And, Twitter announced that there were 9,420 tweets per second sent immediately after Tebow’s overtime touchdown pass. It set a new sports record for the site.

“There is little doubt that Tim Tebow is a phenomenon,” says Mark Hickson, Ph.D., professor of communication studies for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “The question arises is why or how.”

Hickson, a body language expert who has penned scores of articles in communication journals, says that “for the most part, sportscasters claimed that [Tebow] does not have the talent to be a professional starting quarterback.” “Something made him more successful than Matt Ryan,” Hickson says of another NFL quarterback. “Was it luck? Was it faith? It was magic of some sort.” “The question is not whether we believe his faith has something to do with it,” Hickson says. “The question is whether he does.”
