Newswise — Don't think the rise of outsourcing overseas and the fall of some Internet companies have spelled doom for computer science careers, said Anthony Skjellum, Ph.D., chair of the UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences. On the contrary, graduates are walking out of universities with computer science degrees and jobs that pay an average of $50,000 or more. Programmers, systems administrators and security analyst jobs, to name a few, are plentiful. "The jobs are both interesting and very rewarding — plus they pay well." And computer security concerns are creating even more hiring opportunities. "Everyone's hiring and hiring and hiring."
