ITHACA, N.Y. – With today’s first meeting of the Financial Stability Oversight Council, the regulatory regime born of Dodd-Frank and the nation’s worst economic crisis since the Great Depression kicks into high gear.

Will it mean stability, transparency and economic growth; or financial apoplexy and a boon for only law firms and Wall Street consultants?

On Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Cornell University’s ILR Conference Center in Midtown Manhattan, Charles K. Whitehead, associate professor at the Cornell School of Law and former senior executive at Salomon Brothers and Citigroup, will join journalists for a frank, on-the-record exploration of the future of U.S. financial regulation and its role in the global economy.

Whitehead specializes in law relating to corporations, financial markets and strategic transactions. After clerking at the U.S. Court of Appeals (2nd Circuit), Whitehead practiced in the U.S., Europe and Asia as outside counsel and general counsel of several multinational financial institutions as well as being the chief operating officer for Citigroup’s institutional businesses in Japan. In the past year, he has appeared in the New York Times and Bloomberg Businessweek as well as Fox Business News, CNN Money and other major media explaining the need for and efficacy of various attempts to address the root causes of the 2007-08 financial collapse.
