Newswise — Andrew Macpherson, research assistant professor of justice studies at the University of New Hampshire Justiceworks program and director of the Technical Analysis Group, is available to discuss new warnings about the increased threat of cyber attacks.

Macpherson can discuss the latest cyber attack threats to the United States, challenges to thwarting them, and how these threats are different from past threats.

On Tuesday, Dennis Blair, the director of National Intelligence, warned that government and businesses are under increasing threat from cyber attackers, who are stealing sensitive information and undermining the nation’s information systems. Blair made his remarks at the Senate Intelligence Committee’s annual threat assessment hearing.

Macpherson has studied the cyber capabilities of Islamic terrorist groups, and law enforcement tools and technologies used to investigate cyber attacks. He has served as an advisor to the Department of Homeland Security National Cyber Security Division on state and local law enforcement matters. Prior to his appointment at UNH, Macpherson served at Dartmouth College's Institute for Security Technology Studies.

The University of New Hampshire, founded in 1866, is a world-class public research university with the feel of a New England liberal arts college. A land, sea, and space-grant university, UNH is the state's flagship public institution, enrolling more than 12,200 undergraduate and 2,200 graduate students.
