Newswise — Over 1,200 people will participate in the 5K Your Way Walk/Run in support of Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) at Queen’s Park, on Sunday, October 18, 2009. The 5K Your Way is an event where participants can choose to direct their fundraising to the area, lab or project in PMH of their choice.

The 5K Your Way is in its 9th year and has raised $3 million to date to support over 25 areas, labs and departments of The Princess Margaret.

“The 5K Run/Walk is an inspirational event for everyone; families, patients and staff,” said Paul Alofs, President and CEO, Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. “Anyone can enjoy this fun day. Fundraising for any area of the hospital brings attention to many research projects and areas that need our support.”

Top fundraisers have raised more than $30,000 and top teams have raised over $100,000 and counting. This year’s $1 million fundraising goal will be directed towards vital research and patient support at The Princess Margaret. In 2009, the 5K Your Way has the greatest number of teams to ever participate, with over 122 teams raising funds for many areas of PMH.

Lisa Ray, Canadian actress and model, raising funds for the Team Myeloma Canada will be participating. Mike Komisarek, the Assistant Captain and player on the Toronto Maple Leafs will also be supporting the 5K Your Way on Sunday morning.
