DR. CURTIS W. COOK NAMED USD BUSINESS DEAN-ELECT

Dr. Curtis W. Cook has been chosen Dean of the School of
Business Administration at the University of San Diego.
Cook, currently Associate Dean and Professor of Management
at the College for Business at San Jose State University, will
succeed Dr. James M. Burns, Founding Dean of the School of
Business Administration, who will step down as Dean at the end of
the 1996-97 academic year.
"Dr. Cook has an outstanding record of achievement in
business education and management innovation," said Dr. Frank
Lazarus, Academic Vice President and Provost. "We are confident
that, under Dean Cook's leadership, the School of Business
Administration will broaden the reach of its academic programs
and expand its fruitful relationships with the local and regional
business community."
Cook, 58, a native of California, came to San Jose State in 1982
after 10 years at the School of Business at Southern Illinois University
(SIU) at Edwardsville, where he was an Associate Professor of Management.
Prior to joining SIU, Cook worked in industry and at the University of
Southern California's Graduate School of Business Administration, where
he earned a Master of Business Administration in 1967 and a Doctor of
Business Administration in 1974.
During his 25 years in public higher education, Cook has led faculty
development of many new degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate
levels, always by including constituents from business. He also has found
innovative ways to enhance faculty research and to bring in technology
resources through grants and in-kind gifts from industry.
Among Cook's extensive list of publications is Management
and Organizational Behavior, co-authored with Phillip Hunsaker of
USD and Robert Coffey of USC, just published in its second
edition.
As an educational and research consultant to government and
the private sector, Cook has worked with organizations that
include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute in Washington,
D.C., Pacific Bell, AT&T Communications, Management Centre Europe
in Brussels, and Housing Development Finance Corporation in
Bombay.
Cook and his wife, Ruth, a Professor and Director of Special
Education at Santa Clara University, have two adult children and
currently reside in Los Gatos, CA.
