EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University theater professor Harvey Young is available to discuss and critique the 88th Academy Awards presentation, held Sunday, Feb. 28.

Young is chair and director of graduate studies in the department of theater at Northwestern University’s School of Communication. He can be reached at [email protected] or 847-491-3262.

Young on the Oscar’s chance to promote its vision for the future:

“Rather than presenting a faux picture of integration, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, needs to stand front and center. She needs to address the millions of viewers and assure us of the Academy’s renewed commitment to spotlighting those exceptional films and performances that most resonate with the average moviegoer, people like us. Everyone, regardless of complexion, likes to see themselves and their experiences represented on screen. Visibility is validation.”

Young has appointments in African American Studies, performance studies and radio/television/film. He is currently President-elect of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the largest association dedicated to college/university theatre.
