WHAT: The University of Maryland will celebrate the graduation of more than 2,600 students who are applicants to receive bachelor and advanced degrees during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 18, at the Comcast Center. There are 357 Ph.D. candidates, 722 master's degree candidates and 1537 bachelor's degree candidates.

The featured speaker will be Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md) who represents portions of Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.

The student speaker will be Renee Sihvola, who is graduating with a double major in government and politics, and criminal justice. She is planning to attend law school and to become a criminal lawyer.

WHEN: The main commencement ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18. Individual schools and departments hold their own ceremonies Saturday, December 19 at various times throughout the day. Check www.commencement.umd.edu/ceremoniesdec.html for a complete list.

BROADCAST AND INTERNET STREAMING: UMTV, the university's cable TV station, will broadcast the ceremony live on Channel 72 in Prince George's County and Channel 2 in Montgomery County. UMTV will also rebroadcast the ceremony several times. Check www.umtv.umd.edu for a schedule.

MEDIA: Parking for the media is free on all surface lots and in adjacent parking garages near the Comcast Center. Risers and a mult box will be available. Members of the media should enter on the ground floor at the Comcast Center and proceed to media check in and seating (on the floor at the back).

TV crews with a lot of gear should enter through the loading dock in the back of the Comcast Center (which is at floor level and near media check in).

Reserved press seating is available. Only media with proper credentials will be allowed on the floor.
