Grandparent visitation, diversity forum topics

(Blacksburg, Va.) -- The Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology 1999 Seminar Series explores current issues affecting older adults' lives. The next two forums will be held in the Fralin Center auditorium on the university's campus at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and Nov. 4

Scheduled forums are:

* October 14 - "A Content Analysis of Court Opinions About Grandparent Visitation Rights" by Tammy Henderson, assistant professor of human development

* November 4 - "Diversity in Older Adults' Lives: Past, Present, and Future" by Katherine Allen, professor of human development

The Center for Gerontology at Virginia Tech was established in 1977 to foster multidisciplinary activities in the field of aging. Its primary emphasis is upon applied and basic gerontology research that enhances the quality of life for older adults. The center is a university center housed in the College of Human Resources and Education. Approximately 20 faculty in the Colleges of Architecture and Urban Studies, Arts and Sciences, and Human Resources and Education are affiliated with the center. The center's staff serves as a resource for academic departments as well as for community agencies and organizations. The center's Extension Specialist provides statewide leadership to county and city Extension Agents throughout Virginia.
