MIDDLE EAST EXPERTS AVAILABLE

Temple University has a number of faculty experts who are available to comment on the developing crisis in the Middle East:

POLITICS AND DIPLOMACY:

Stanley Newman, political science professor, who teaches an extracurricular course on the politics of bioethics, can comment on the politics of oil, the Middle East, terrorism, genocide, and bioethics. Office: 204-7782; home: 843-9369.

Khalid Blankinship, religion professor, who has visited Iraq and is in touch with Iraqi in Philadelphia. He can comment on Iraq's history, culture, religion, and discuss the possibility of U.S. intervention. Office: 204-5543; home: 425-5941.

Mahmould Ayoub, religion professor, who is from Lebanon. He teaches Islamic studies, and can talk about the political atmosphere in the Middle East and the anti American feelings among Arab nations in the Persian Gulf. Office: 204-5603, or home: 849-6571.

Richard Immerman, history professor, and director of Temple's Center for the Study of Force and Diplomacy, can comment on the possibility/implications of military airstrikes in Iraq and diplomatic strategies. Office: 204-7466. Home: 610-645-6052.

James Hilty, a contemporary historian, is an expert on America's presidents and author of several books on the Kennedys, including Robert Kennedy: Brother Protector. He can comment on the presidency and about previous U.S. chief executives who have dealt with the possibility of a war. Office: 204-5581. Home: 610-277-6847.

CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS:

David Dalton, chemistry professor, has worked with the U. S. military in efforts to equip soldiers with injectable substances that counteract the effects of chemical weapons. He can be reached at his office, 215-204-7138; or at home, 610-527-2018.
