Fawaz A. Gerges, Sarah Lawrence College

Fawaz A. Gerges studies Islam and the political process, fringe Islamist movements, Arab politics, American foreign policy in the Middle East, the modern history of the Middle East, history of conflict, diplomacy and foreign policy, historical sociology, and international relations. Gerges is chair of international affairs and Middle Eastern studies at Sarah Lawrence and earned a master's at London School of Economics and a Ph.D. at Oxford. Henri Barkey, Lehigh University

Henri Barkey, a terrorism expert who served two years (1998-2000) with the State Department's Policy Planning Staff working on Middle Eastern issues, says he still believes the U.S. can dismantle Saddam Hussein without firing a shot.
