The Bush administration says it has solid evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, but it has not made such information public. UAB political scientist Cassady Craft, Ph.D., sees potential parallels with the Vietnam experience. "Just as previous administrations first saw military action in Vietnam as a risk-free proposition and a preferred policy, the Bush administration may see war with Iraq as risk-free, facilitated by a passive and trustworthy American public. If war isn't the administration's preferred policy, it should make more resources, such as intelligence, available to the United Nations and allow the U.N. inspection teams time to do a thorough job. Instead, the administration appears to have ruled out any sort of negotiated settlement with Iraq."
