Newswise — Th. Emil Homerin, professor of religion at the University of Rochester, is an expert on Islam and has lived and worked in Egypt for many years. The author of numerous books on Arab and Sufi poets, Homerin contributed the chapters on Islam for the book, The Religious Foundations of Western Civilization (Abingdon Press, 2006).

He has won a number of awards including the American Association of Teachers of Arabic Translation Prize and is the recipient of grants from the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation, the American Research Center in Egypt, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
