Clint Sidle to direct Park Leadership Fellows Program at Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management

ITHACA, N.Y. - Clint Sidle has been appointed director of the Park Leadership Fellows Program at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management. In that role, he will direct the school's Park Leadership Fellows program and help develop the other components of the Johnson School's leadership development offerings, including the Distinguished Speakers series, the Young Leaders series, the annual Leadership Forum and the Johnson Mentor Program. He also will work closely with the faculty members responsible for the school's academic leadership curriculum.

"The Johnson School intends to offer our MBA students the finest leadership development opportunities available anywhere," said Robert Swieringa, the Anne and Elmer Lindseth Dean of the school. "Clint's appointment to head these efforts is an essential step in focusing and building our activities in this area."

The Johnson School's Park Leadership Fellows program is the only program of its type at a top U.S. business school. Park Fellows, who each receive full MBA tuition support and a living stipend, are among the most gifted and promising young men and women from the MBA applicant pool. They are selected through a highly competitive process, based on exceptional leadership skills, academic achievements and professional accomplishments, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service.

As part of the fellowship obligation, Park Fellows complete a significant, value-added public service project that will contribute to a meaningful, permanent change at the Johnson School, Cornell or the surrounding community. They also take part in a series of programs and courses designed to assess and develop their leadership skills.

"These students will be the leaders of tomorrow in whatever field they choose, and this program is designed to nurture their full potential," Sidle said.

In addition to administering the Park Leadership Fellows program, Sidle also is responsible for:

* the Leadership Speakers Series, which brings influential "thought leaders" and corporate executives to campus for a major address and candid interactions with students. Speakers in 1997-98 included: General Walter Ulmer, CEO (retired), Center for Creative Leadership; Cornell alumnus Ken Blanchard, author of the best-selling One Minute Manager and numerous other books; Dennis Dammerman, chief financial officer at General Electric; and Robert Galvin, CEO at Motorola;

* the Young Leaders Series, to begin in fall 1998, which will bring to campus individuals (under 40 years of age) who have achieved substantial leadership success early in their careers and can serve as role models closer in age and position to the MBA students;

* the annual Leadership Forum, which will bring top leadership consultants and heads of major corporations to the Johnson School each April for a two-day exchange of ideas; and

* the Johnson Mentor Program, which matches MBA students with alumni mentors in their fields of interest. The mentors serve as advisers, role models, and friends to the students as they progress through the MBA program.

Sidle, who has worked at Cornell since 1982 and was most recently director of institutional planning and research, has played key roles in many of the university's strategic change activities. He also worked as a trainer for campus and corporate leadership development programs and is coauthor of High Impact Tools and Activities for Strategic Planning (McGraw Hill, 1998).

Sidle earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1974, a master's degree from the Universite Catholic de Louvain in 1976 and an MBA from the Johnson School in 1977.
